Ayurveda places great emphasis on keeping the body lubricated, starting with massaging babies when they are first born, all the way up into old age. There are numerous reasons for this. First, the brain needs constant lubrication of fats and oils to keep it functioning optimally and applying oil to the head and soles of the feet are two important ways to accomplish this. Applying oil to the skin not only keeps the skin wrinkle free and supple, but the fats in the oils absorb through the skin and go directly into the bloodstream, helping with all kinds of functions.

And there are all different types of oils we use in my busy practice: oils to balance Vata, Pitta and Kapha, oils for arthritis, oils to prevent hair loss and other oils to cool down the heat in the scalp. We use oils specifically formulated to balance the thyroid gland and other oils which target all kinds of skin conditions such as herbalized oils to treat psoriasis, eczema and all the autoimmune skin conditions we treat on a daily basis.

The video describes the various types of oleation techniques used on the head, ears and nostrils to purify the prana coming into these areas, as well as oils formulated specifically for the delicate skin on the face, for lubricating the eyes, mouth and even the navel, which will balance the vagus nerve and all the vibrational and physical channels of blood and nerve supply which lie right behind the navel.

If you want to age gracefully and prevent the drying qualities of Vata which takes over as we age, you definitely want to begin oiling up various parts of your body to slow down the aging process with these time-tested techniques Ayurveda offers us.
