Hiking the Levy Loop Trail can be challenging, especially during summer. When hiking on levees you'll usually find very little sun, you'll be exposed to other weather such lighting, and there isn't a detour to get around alligators blocking the path! All part of the adventure, right?
I chose to start early and keep a good pace to be done before it got too hot or before the storms came in. You can see the clouds form and the wind pick up. I got rained on a little but not bad, and I was gone before the thunder arrived. As for the gators, I didn't see many, but there was this one right next to a nest. There was even a sign! This particular reptile did not want me to pass at first but eventually calmed down. I was able to get by on the edge of the trail. Good times!
I saw other nest along the way, full of little gator eggs I'm sure. I also found other wildlife from hummingbirds to water fowl to deer. The deer were actually frightened away by a mower, but then one came straight back by me. I think it may have had a fawn hiding in the brush.
One highlight of the day for me was finding a small hornets nest. Such a cool thing see, from a distance.
By the way, even though this property is right along the interstate, the drive in was very nice.
Filmed in July.
