Environmentalist and former Vice President Al Gore was a guest speaker during the most recent Engage session on October 16, 2024 at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

Following Mr. Gore's talk on climate monitoring, Goddard scientists participated in a panel entitled “Remote Sensing and the Future of Earth Observations,” which explores the latest advancements in technology that allow for the monitoring of the atmosphere from space and showcase how Goddard’s research is driving the future of Earth science. The discussion highlighted how these tools are being used to better understand and manage water resources as well as respond to natural disasters, thanks in part to collaborations with federal partners. Panelists also spoke about novel approaches to modeling the climate and the importance of the U.S. Greenhouse Gas Center in tracking emissions.

Panelists include:
• Dr. Miguel Roman – Deputy Director, Atmospheres, Earth Sciences Division
• Dr. John Bolten – Chief, Hydrological Sciences Laboratory
• Dr. Lesley Ott – Project Scientist, U.S. Greenhouse Gas Center
• Dr. Dalia Kirschbaum (moderator) – Director, Earth Sciences Division
