If you were a Canadian teenager 53 years ago in 1966, you would probably be watching at 5:30pm on weekdays a half hour black & white pop music series titled LET’S GO (formerly titled Music Hop) which featured young up and coming talent originating from 5 major cities across Canada. In this edition on November 4th, Vancouver deejay host Red Robinson introduced Howie Vickers, Patty Surbey, Marty Gillen, Susan Pesklevits and Terry Jacks (the latter two eventually formed the Poppy Family). The show featured 25 hit songs from “the British Invasion,” originally made famous by The Beatles, the Dave Clark Five, the Searchers, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Freddie and the Dreamers, Wayne Fontana, the Seekers, the Troggs, the Hollies, Dusty Springfield, Billy J Kramer, the Swinging Blue Jeans, Donovan, Cilla Black, Jonathan King, the Mindbenders, Petula Clark, Tom Jones, the Fortunes, Herman’s Hermits, Manfred Mann, the Nashville Teens, the Honeycombs, the Animals and The Rolling Stones. Could you connect the singers and songs to the original artists?
