Gergeti Trinity Church is one of the most beautiful temples in Georgia, located at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level. According to historical data, Saint Andrew the First-Called traveled to this region in the 1st century to preach Christianity and erected a cross in Gergeti. Saint Nino, Equal to the Apostles, who preached Christianity in the 4th century, also placed a cross on this site.
According to legend, the construction of the first church is linked to King Vakhtang Gorgasali in the 6th century. The temple was built in the 1330s. Stone for the construction was transported from a village located several kilometers away from the site.
In difficult times for Georgia, when the country was besieged by enemies, the Gergeti Holy Trinity Church housed some of the greatest relics of the Georgian Church, including the Cross of Saint Nino and the Holy Nail Of the Lord.
The church offers magnificent views, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Georgia.
