Calm Uplift Immune Support: How to Make a Potent Lemon Balm Infusion

It’s chilly and winter-beautiful out there! And it’s also peak cold and flu season. Today I extol the virtues of lemon balm for its immune supportive, uplifting, and calming gifts. Join me in the kitchen as we make this simple, yet, notable remedy.

Therapeutics
Lemon balm (leaf and flowering tops) is an immune supportive, uplifting, nervous system tonic. It is used in formulas for bellyaches, anxiety, sleeplessness, hyperthyroid, colds (fevers) and viruses (herpes). It is a pleasant, gentle, calming tea for children, the elderly, and everyone in between.

Actions: digestive, carminative, stomachic, nervine, antidepressant, antispasmodic, antimicrobial (antiviral), diaphoretic.

Potential Contraindications: Some herbalists advise caution if used during pregnancy and lactation; with thyroid medications; or with CNS depressants (sedatives, alcohol, benzodiazepines). Others consider it safe with no warnings. With any new food or medicine, go slowly, learn, and discuss using it with your healthcare provider.

To your health!
In gratitude,
Dina
