Pop Jones and his daughter Sierra Nevada make the decision to leave their Texas ranch and go to Montana after inheriting a portion of family land there. Sierra Nevada meets Farrell, a hired shooter, while taking a bath in a pond along the route. He alerts her of the presence of deadly Indians in the area.

Farrell is en route to work for wealthy rancher Tom McCord. Recently, there has been a lot of rustling in the area. McCord, who is working with Indians, particularly Natchakoa of the Blackfoot tribe, whose bravery stampedes the Jones family's cattle, renders Sierra unconscious, injures her cowhand Nat, and kills Pop, steals a document granting rights to the property from Pop's dead body.

According to Variety, the movie is "a listless and ordinary western" with a "screenplay [that] is short on imagination and long on cliche," and "Allan Dwan’s direction is slow moving." "Pretty as a Western sunset in her curly, carrot-colored hairdo," Stanwyck was said in a New York Times review of the movie, but she "is given little to do except chase around the lush mountain greenery and shoot it out with the bad men." Reagan's performance was characterized as "stalwart and obvious."
