In many families, workplaces, and friendships, we often find š¦ ourselves caught up in a "drama triangle," where different roles are played by various individuals. This triangle consists of three primary roles: the š«ØVictim, who feels helpless and oppressed; the persecutor š¤, who blames and criticises; and the š¤Rescuer, who tries to save without being asked. Typically, a drama triangle is formed because the persecutor and victim do not want to confront their issues, hence leading to the never-ending cycle ā»ļø of conflict and unconsciously pulling in the Rescuer.
The only way to break this cycle is for the Rescuer to resist the urge to step in. Instead, after the drama or the conflict, they can help coach š the victim to stand up for themselves and encourage the persecutor to communicate calmly. By staying out of the triangle, the rescuers prevent themselves from becoming Victims.
Take a moment to reflect on your life. Share in the comments šÆļø whether you find yourself acting as a Rescuer, Victim, or Persecutor, and do you see such drama triangles in your homeš , workplace š¢, or friendshipsš«? Recognising these patterns is the first step toward breaking the cycle and finding healthier ways to interact.
