Although the conditions were challenging, with labor camps and strenuous work, the opportunities provided were often better than what was available back home. These expatriates, working for relatively low wages, sent a significant portion of their earnings back to Kerala. This remittance influx was instrumental in driving the state's development and improving the economic situation.
Today, there is concern about the future of the non-resident community's impact on Kerala. With changing global dynamics, there is speculation about whether the current trends might affect the diaspora's role and Kerala's economy. Understanding these evolving factors is crucial for anticipating the future relationship between Kerala and its non-resident population.
