China cannot afford to miss the train of progress and trade in the Indian Ocean area, with a rising India gaining more and more commercial and industrial weight. To address this, China had a master plan, which was to create a massive trade route that would cross Myanmar, formerly Burma, to have a preferential outlet to the ocean in the region. However, the civil war in the area has caused absolute chaos, halted China’s expansion plans, and led to multiple problems stemming from illegal immigration and the lack of cheap labor, which the war has caused and which once supplied a part of China's industry. In a new episode of "this is what the news won’t tell you," I explain what is happening in this little-known hot zone of the planet, with China and Myanmar as the main players.
