VN24 - 20-09-2024 (D/M/Y) - Hamm A2 / Germany - A serious traffic accident occurred in the morning hours on the A2 freeway near Hamm. A road maintenance worker was seriously injured. According to his own statements, the driver of a semitrailer truck had fallen asleep at the wheel on the westbound carriageway and drifted to the right onto the hard shoulder. Unfortunately, workers from the highway maintenance department were there in the process of reinstalling a traffic sign. This work was being secured with a so-called traffic control board, which was attached to a trailer fitted to a lorry. The semitrailer truck struck this warning trailer, seriously injuring the legs of an employee. He was taken to hospital but is out of life-threatening condition. The entire right side of the articulated truck was torn open. The driver (wearing red swimming trunks) came to a halt a long way behind the scene of the accident.
