It was billed as their last Australian show. Limited to 100 tickets. It was a gig not to miss. Not surprisingly, it quickly sold out, and two more shows were added on the preceding nights. Johnny Hunter announced they were finally relocating to the UK and these shows were to be their send off. It was also an opportunity to play some new songs, in particular ‘Frustration’, ahead of the release of their second album in May.

Johnny Hunter had undergone some lineup and image changes since I’d last seen them, but you won’t be able to tell much of that from this video. Between the waving arms and the low ceiling, there wasn’t much opportunity to glimpse the band. Still they sounded great and the audience loved them, and that is very clear from this footage. Let’s hope the UK provides Johnny Hunter with the recognition that sadly their home city hasn’t been able to.
