In this video, I detail both my negative and positive perspectives of Persona 4 as well as the rerelease, Persona 4 Golden. P4 / P4G are games that I like, but also have a lot of personal gripes with. This can range from the attempts at refining the established formula of Persona 3 ending in mixed results to blatant double-standards and hypocrisy when it comes to how people approach criticism between Persona 3 and Persona 4. Nonetheless, for all the things that I might've not liked, I still enjoy and look back fondly at Persona 4. Persona 4 is not my favorite Persona game, but it is a great complementary game to my favorite Persona game, Persona 3. Persona 4 was built off and released only a year after Persona 3 FES, so naturally Persona 4 (and consequently Persona 4 Golden) share many things in common while also contrasting in tone. Persona 4 was also one of the last games of SMT's PS2 era, the other being Raidou 2. Megami Tensei had a couple duologies during that era (Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner and Devil Summoner: Raidou), and I consider Persona 3 and Persona 4 a duology of sorts as well. Especially with how it harkens back to it a lot. Make no mistake though, Persona 4 has many merits that make it a good game on its own. Watch my Persona 4 retrospective to find out!
