Our money pit gets deeper every day. This church restoration project has only just begun and the shoe-string budget is now completely out of control.

With squirrels in the basement the last thing we need is a leaky roof but that's exactly what we've got. It's one nasty surprise after another but will there be good news from the asbestos test?

Amanda gives a performance worthy of an Oscar after a mishap with a crowbar but I think she's just trying to get out of work.

We remove (or should I say ''I remove''?) all of the church pews and save the ancient timbers for this life-changing home improvement project. The question is, how many pews get destroyed and how many are salvaged?

Heavy rains deliver a lovely interior water feature we didn't ask for and my ghetto workbench is a tragic thing of shame and failure.

My Dremel has gone flaccid but at least we've discovered a life-time supply of chewing gum. Amanda tries to distract me with a spider so she can chow down on some 'pew-snacks' but I'm not falling for it.

Is this renovation project doomed for failure and have we bitten off more than we can chew? Are my carpentry skills up to the job and will Amanda keep making excuses to go and watch crap shows on the telly?

There's really only one way to find out.
