Rural broadband is not simple. The economics of providing broadband over fiber optics in rural areas means that large service providers are not interested. But the need for rural broadband is widely acknowledged, it's the actual deployment that makes it difficult. By researching a similar problem from the early 20th century, rural electrification, we learned that the same problems existed then, and, not surprisingly, the same solutions developed then are applicable today in the 21st century.
