Frédéric Chopin composed this Mazurka in D major in 1829. It was published posthumously in 1875 (though it should be noted that Chopin had requested that his unpublished works be burnt upon his death). A heavily revised version dated 1832 was published in 1880. As this piece doesn't have a proper Opus number, it is usually referred to as B. 31, P 1/7, and KK IVa/7, according to its entry numbers in the Brown, Chominski, and Kobylanska catalogues respectively.
