A full walkthrough of a Great Western Railway (GWR) Class 802 Intercity Express Train (IET) (5 carriage) train.
This video is a full walkthrough starting in standard class and working through the train to first class.

The formation of a 5 carriage GWR IET (class 802 or class 800) is A, B, C, D, E with A-C being standard class, E being first class and D being a mix of Standard and First class seating. Coach A is the quiet zone and their is a kitchen located in coach E. The GWR IET are formed of 5 and 9 carriages with the 9 carriage versions being A, B, C, D, G, H, J, K, L. 5 carriage GWR IET often operate in 10 carriage formations with the second unit having different carriage letters of G, H, J, K, L. In carriage E first class some 5 carriage GWR IET have an additional row of windowless seats towards the kitchen end of the carriage (which is the case for the unit in this video).

The interior of the GWR 5 carriage IET have not refurbished since they have only been in service for just over 5 years however some units with the original seat covers have been replaced with the newer design of seat cover. Seating on board the 800/802 is 2+2 in standard and 2+1 in first.

The GWR 5 and 9 carriage IET are operated together on routes with no routes only receiving 1 version over another as the only form of services except the summer only Pembroke Dock GWR service where 5 carriages are used. The IET replaced the HST Intercity 125 trains on GWR Intercity routes out of London Paddington along the GWML and as all units are Bi-Modes can operate to all intercity destinations including Oxford, Worcester, Cheltenham, Bristol, Cardiff, Swansea, Exeter, Plymouth and Penzance. The IET are also used on a limited of number of regional services replacing the class 255 Castle HST on some Cardiff to Taunton/Penzance services.

There are currently no plans to replace the IET on GWR services.

Note that this video was filmed in October 2022 while waiting at Great Malvern station to form a service towards London Paddington via the North Cotswold line.
