As Tim Walz and JD Vance face off on the debate stage tonight, one Democrat will be watching with particular interest.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro came very close to being the party’s vice presidential nominee, and told All Things Considered host Mary Louise Kelly that voters will be looking for authenticity on the debate stage.

“The policies are going to be set by the people at the top of the ticket. I think what [voters] want to know is the vice president is competent and capable,” he said.
