In the Toccata, adagio and fugue in C major, performed by Reitze Smits for All of Bach, we find an athletic pedal solo in the opening movement. This solo is based on a passage in a Prelude by Dietrich Buxtehude, one of the greatest organists of the day, with whom Bach himself studied. Of course, Bach would not be Bach if he had not tried to outdo his great example, and make the solo longer and more complex, thus exploring the whole instrument.

Recorded for the project All of Bach on September 16th 2014 at St Jacob's Church, Leeuwarden. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel https://bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating https://bit.ly/3J5uprM.
