It wasn’t until Josh’s senior year that other high school coaches started to take notice. He grew to an impressive 6’5” 210 pounds and had become a dominant quarterback in his home town, coining the nick name Hollywood. He wrapped up his high school career with over 5,000 passing yards and 59 touchdowns, at this point the town wanted to know if he would get a shot at the next level. After all, he was probably the main reason seats were packed during their high school games.

But despite his local fame in Firebaugh California, no Division 1 school offered him a scholarship, which left Josh wondering what his next move would be. With limited options to play at the next level Josh committed to Reedley College, a local Juco just an hours drive east from his home town.

Josh would put up impressive numbers, getting attention from a few Division 1 programs but they didn’t really take him seriously, being from a small town with probably less competition from some of the major cities in California.

Despite being overlooked that blue collar mentality kicked in and Josh would send out hundreds of emails to schools he thought would be a good fit for him. And after pressing send to what seemed like every school in the country, Josh eventually got a call back, from one school, the University of Wyoming,

He would commit to play there shortly after and would almost immediately prove why he was one of the most underrated recruits in his class. Josh's breakout season came the following season in 2016 when he threw for over 3,200 yards and 28 touchdowns, leading his team to the Mountain West Championship Game.

But the path to success is rarely smooth, so after this historic season for Wyoming, ne of the most dreaded fears in any athlete's career became a reality.
