"neko-irazu" literally means "no cat needed". thats why theyre selling poisons for rats, so you dont need to buy a cat!
thank u to my bestie for helping with the kubinage thing. “toss my cookies” is a phrase that means to be sick or throw up, which i learned upon translating this! and my friend suggested i use this phrase because in japanese, it could be translated to “kukkii-nage,” which sounds similar to the sumo kimarite “kubinage”.
in the original, mei says “bucchake”, which means frankly or honestly, and then “plain/bland”. basically she says, “it’s honestly just super bland!” but ougai and shunsou don’t know the word bucchake since it’s not a widespread word in the meiji era. the word ougai mistakes it for is “utchari,” which is another sumo kimarite.
