Opening address
Admiral Rob Bauer, Chair of NATO’s Military Committee
Q&A
Reshaping of Northern European Security and Defence
The effects of Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine and the ongoing great power competition ripples across Europe, including the Northern Flank of NATO. The war has pushed Finland and Sweden to join the Alliance, altering the security dynamics in the Northern European region. Despite the reduction of Russian land forces near Norway, the country is still upholding its nuclear arsenal on the Kola peninsula as well as its air and maritime forces. How will the changed security and defence dynamics of the Nordic region affect NATO? And how is NATO responding through its policies and planning mechanisms? What will these changes mean for Norwegian security and defense planning?
