The wide receiver…the new premiere position in modern NFL offenses. We’ve seen unprecedented paydays and massive trades this offseason all revolving around the increasingly prominent pass catcher. If you type the term ‘best NFL wide receivers’ into Google, you’ll be presented with a wide array of legendary names and drastic differences in playstyle. You see the thing is, there is no set definition for what a wide receiver ought to be, but nonetheless the goal remains the same. Crisp route running, winning one-on-one coverage, great hands, and run after catch ability are just a few pivotal areas that illuminate a true elite threat. The open-endedness of the position allows for an insane amount of variability when it comes to how a player gets his job done. One one hand, you have the Jump ball, big-body threat who can win against single or double coverage when it comes to deep contested passes; think Mike Evans or Mike Williams with this prototype. Then there’s the Possession receiver, who has unbelievable hands and gets off the line of scrimmage effortlessly: think Davante Adams, Stefon Diggs or more recently… Cooper Kupp. Another type is the Burner, aka the speed receiver who simply breaks defensive schemes with blazing route running: think Tyreek ‘Cheetah’ Hill or ‘Scary’ Terry McLaurin. The final type to note is the humble slot receiver who’s known for his relatively small frame and excellent quickness between the numbers. I save it for last because that’s what we’ll be diving deeper into with this video. A great slot receiver must be willing to take vicious hits over the middle, have an uncanny ability to find the seams between a defense, and overall utilize exceptional explosiveness out of cuts to create space for themselves and their QB. Whatever your niche is, you need to execute it at the highest possible level to stand out, and there is no better measure of success than production. So with that all being said, let’s take a close look into one of the most promising and exciting slot receivers in all the NFL last season: Amon-Ra St. Brown. He’s not only a fascinating story with his football, but his home life is nothing short of unique to the maximum extent. Let’s journey through his experiences of football at 3 different levels, his multicultural family, and his career outlook based on what he’s shown up to date. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “The sun illuminates only the eyes of the man but shines into the eye and heart of the child’. Without further adieu, I present to you…..the Sun God of Egypt.
