Taking in the history of the Roman invasion of Britain, we'll be looking in depth at the fort and settlement of Vindolanda, close to Hadrian's Wall.

Built as a defensive and security measure in the 120s AD under the orders of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the wall took on a life of its own with its own regular settlements of soldiers and civilians.

Amazingly, letters have been excavated from Vindolanda from the Roman occupation, from Roman soldiers and their families, writing very everyday things and giving a fascinating glimpse into the daily life over 1600 years ago. So we'll be reading those!

It's an intriguing time in British history!
