Louis Wright was a shutdown corner before the term was invented. A 4× First-team All-Pro (1978, 1979, 1983, 1984); Second-team All-Pro (1977); and a 5× Pro Bowler. In my opinion Wright, a member of the All-70’s team, should be in the Hall Of Fame. At 6-3 200 pounds with sprinter speed offenses rarely tested Wright which is the reason for him “only” having 26 career interceptions. It’s no coincidence that Steve Foley is the Broncos all time interceptor and Mike Harden had 33 career interceptions as the corners opposite Wright for most of his career. For run defense few corners were ever better than Louie Wright.

I always wished that Wright had played one more season. If Wright played the ’87 Super Bowl season, there is no way Ricky Sanders has almost 200 yards receiving, including the 80 yarder that ignited the 2nd quarter from Hell. However; Wright retired in July of 1987 amidst a rumored issue with head coach Dan Reeves.

NFL get it right with these greats from the 1970’s and 80’s that deserve to be in the Hall.
