The Wild Outsiders head down to Southern Oregon to bag two neighboring Cascade Volcanoes, Mount Thielsen 9,182' and Mount McLoughlin 9,495'. Both volcanos are accessed via short spur trails from the Pacific Crest Trail, making them excellent extra credit options for those looking to get the most out of their thru-hike.

PART 01: On day one of the three-day trip, we climbed Mount Thielsen, also known as "the lightning rod of the Cascades." After a steady ridgeline ascent, Thielsen's narrow upper region is attained via an exposed 40-50' class 3/4 (seasonal) scramble. All three parties we met at the summit block deemed it a death wish to descend off the top without a rappel. Moose wisely heeded their warnings and watched from below as I (Teton) continued onward as expected, rope-less. The climbing was not hard or technical, but it was very exposed and covered with ice and snow. This mountain is terrifying and insanely gratifying, an extremely fun summit.
