Thanks to railway tourism, thanks to the lively Soviet steam locomotives, the forgotten Karelian town of Sortavala has turned into a tourist center, which is now known to almost all of Russia. This once again proves that the preservation and restoration of historical rolling stock can revive dying regions. But the authorities of Sortavala have not yet realized their new status, continuing to remain an ordinary Russian town with bad roads, with squalid courtyards, with unnecessary fences, with snotty wires, with uncomfortable morally outdated PAZ buses and with other urban ailments characteristic of Russia.
In the same time the town of Sortavala has become home to live steam locomotives, which travel here every day with tourist trains, attracting more and more people to the history of railways, and, of course, railway photographers like me and my friends.
In this video: hot steam locomotives and a chic diesel locomotive TEP60, sad urbanism and chic historical architecture of Sortavala, the magical nature of Karelia, and also many adventures. We hid in a concrete shelter, jumped over fences, chased ducks and walked two kilometers along a broken road, which taxi drivers refused to go on.

Enjoy watching!
