This was a Mile race on the 21st August 1981, in one of Ovett's best seasons, pre the church railings incident!
Not a vintage Ovett performance, but the way he toys with Scott and counteracts his challenge with 200 to go was evidence enough of Ovett's dominance over the other world milers at this time.
He shows good finishing speed here in a relatively pedestrian 3:55.58, and it was just 5 days before he retook the Mile world record off Coe in Koblenz on August 26th.
Although there is no on-screen clock here to go by, he closes in c. 53.9, 25.8, 12.8, easing off.
