The castle has been in use since 1596 which is pretty incredible. When the Meiji government took over, they wanted to destroy all old feudal samurai-era buildings including this castle but it was preserved by locals and not a symbol of Nagano and Japan. You can't film inside the castle but it's permitted to take video from the top and around the outside. Admission: 700 yen ($6.50) for adults
