Sinuiju sits on the banks of the Amnok River which marks the border between the DPRK and the People's Republic of China. Over the years, it has been subjugated at the hands of the Japanese, bombed mercilessly by the United States, and has since grown into the de-facto 'gatehouse' of the republic.
