With Fontana Dam "sluicing" & water levels dropping, it's time to move our floating cabin into deeper water to avoid running aground. This is a first for us, as our previous boathouse had one single anchor that we simply moved toward or away from by tightening a winch. The 6-line mooring system we have now is a bit more technical, but significantly safer & better suited for a relatively narrow cove. Join us as we share another week in the life of houseboat liveaboards on Fontana Lake!

LAKESHORE CLEANUP INFO:
Where: 2 "home base" locations on either side of the lake, join us wherever is more convenient for you. Fontana Marina (40 fontana dam rd, fontana dam, NC 28733) or Fontana Lake Estates (Fontana lake estates marina rd, Bryson City, NC 28713).
When: Nov 3-5, 9am-5pm daily. Come for half a day or all weekend! Up to you.
How: All gear is provided, as well as lunch and waters. No boat needed, unless you'd just like to bring one. For those who bring their own boats, know that no trash will be loaded onto your boat (no worries about getting it dirty), but you will need to be able to beach the boat (pontoons or aluminum bottom, no fiberglass). All volunteers on boats will help bag trash and bring it to the shoreline, where it will later be picked up onto a large trash barge. Volunteers who'd prefer not to bag trash can also help out at the bases by prepping/serving lunch, handing out waters, helping unload styrofoam and bags of trash off incoming boats, etc.

Dress in layers and wear sturdy close-toed shoes (waterproof boots are a plus). Note that this is steep and rocky terrain, not a "beach-like" shoreline.
