Welcome to Friday! I was thinking about directing events in my own life. This is a powerful way to envision how you can establish and move toward goals.

This brought to mind the Thomas Jefferson quote: “Take things always by their smooth handle.”

This, in turn, led me back to Epictetus who said,

“Every event has two handles,” Epictetus said, “one by which it can be carried, and one by which it can’t. If your brother does you wrong, don’t grab it by his wronging, because this is the handle incapable of lifting it. Instead, use the other—that he is your brother, that you were raised together, and then you will have hold of the handle that carries.”

We have to frame our thoughts in ways that will move us in positive directions.
