The Steve Earle song "This City, " played under the closing credits of the "Treme" season finale and was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2010. "Treme" introduced "This City" in a scene in which Earle's character, busker Harley Watt, composes the song on a guitar with the slogan "This machine floats" on its body, a nod to both the flooding after Hurricane Katrina and a guitar Woody Guthrie similarly marked with the words, "This machine kills fascists."

I had forgotten all about this fantastic song until not long ago my friend Susie shared a video of it with me. Songs like this make me so happy to be a musician... that I have the chance to attempt to render something so profoundly powerful & beautiful.
