The history of Ayodhya is very old. It is the city of Lord Rama, and is associated with the Ramayana in everyone's mind. The historical and archeological evidence of the city goes back about 3000 years, and it became a flourishing metropolis between 300 BC and 200 AD. It fulfilled a role as a major trading and pilgrimage destination.

With the long awaited inauguration of the great temple finally happening, we take this opportunity to delve deeper into the long and fabled history of this unique location. We discuss the Islamic invasion of the city, to the longstanding court struggles of proving the existence of a Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
