What is Golgi apparatus? - It is a membrane bound organelle with a network of flattened sacs called cisternae. The rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) facing side of Golgi apparatus is convex shaped and is called cis/forming face. The cell membrane facing side is concave shaped and is called trans/maturing face.

Where is Golgi apparatus in the cell? - It is located in the cytoplasm near RER so that the proteins synthesized in the RER are received by Golgi apparatus for modification.

Why is Golgi apparatus important to the cells? It is involved in the modification of proteins and lipids before transporting them to other intracellular compartments or extracellular secretion.
