i. HAND write the lyrics down so you remember them
2. Understand the structure
a. Understand how long are the verses, how long are the choruses, how many bars
3. Read them out loud without the melody
a. very important
b. helps get the vowels into your mouth
c. ADVANCED - get into the character of the song
2. Musical content
a. Rhythm
i. listen and learn how long each note is held for and specific rhythms
b. Melody
i. learn the melody via listening lol
c. Vowel
i. think about any vowel modification you can do
3. emotion
a. think about how you can express the feeling of the lyrics that maybe the original artist did not (how to make your cover original)
i. how can you add your own flair to the music
b. Implement the stylistic embellishment of your own choosing
i. Add distortion, Twang, dynamics
c. Have fun and lose yourself in the music
i. most important part is to throw all of this out the window and remember to have fun while performing
