Three leading analysts made commentaries on the ongoing Ukraine Crisis. OXGS Fellow Daniel Bilak, who is living in Kyiv and one of the leaders of local civil defence, provided a powerful and moving account from the war zone. Professor Roy Allison (Oxford) and Professor Timothy Garton Ash (Oxford) made insightful comments from the perspective of Russia and Europe respectively.

Daniel Bilak: OXGS Fellow and Senior Counsel at Kinstellar, one of Central and Eastern Europe’s leading international law firms. He has served as Chief Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and principal adviser and chief of staff to the Minister of Justice of Ukraine, among other advisory roles to the government of Ukraine. He is currently one of the leaders of civil defence in Kyiv.

Timothy Garton Ash: Professor of European Studies and Isaiah Berlin Professorial Fellow at St Antony’s College, Oxford, and a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He is one of the leading commentators on European affairs, writing a widely syndicated column in the Guardian.

Roy Allison: Professor of Russian and Eurasian International Relations and Director of Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre (RESC), Oxford University. Head of the Russia and Eurasia Programme at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) (1993-2005).
