তিনি সন্ন্যাসী - তিনি গণিতবিদ্। তাঁর কাছে ধর্ম মহান, বিজ্ঞানও সমান গুরুত্বের।  দুটির মধ্যেই কোনও অসঙ্গতি দেখেন না তিনি। মহান মহারাজ। একসময়ে নাম ছিল মহান মিত্র। ক্লাস টেন ও টুয়েলভের পড়াশোনা কলকাতার সেন্ট জেভিয়ার্সে। তারপর কানপুরে আইআইটি। ক্যালিফোর্নিয়া ইউনিভার্সিটি থেকে অঙ্কে ডক্টরেট।  ১৯৯৮ সালে যোগ দেন রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনে। ২০০৮ সালে হন সন্ন্যাসী। নতুন নাম, স্বামী বিদ্য়ানাথানন্দ। সবার কাছে পরিচিত অবশ্য মহান মহারাজ নামে। ২০১১ সালে পান শান্তি স্বরূপ ভাটনগর অ্যাওয়ার্ড। ২০১৫ সালে জ্যামিতি নিয়ে কাজের জন্য পান ইনফোসিস পুরস্কার।
