I never thought I'd be tapping on Broadway. I don't mean tap dancing -- this is a two-hand "tapping" version of the classic Drifters (1963) / George Benson (1978) hit. There's a lot going on in this arrangement, and yes, I do my own choreography. 😀

I've been a Drifters fan since my teens. I do believe that dulcimers belong on Broadway, and I have a couple of friends who have played hammered dulcimer in Broadway pit orchestras. (I'm not aware of any mountain dulcimers being used in Broadway shows, yet.) Of course, during these Covid days, we all yearn for Broadway to be back on Broadway; at the right time, it will happen.

This song was written by Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller. (Leiber and Stoller were particularly high on my hit parade of songwriters in my formative years, too.)

Though usually associated with old folk songs and tunes, the mountain dulcimer is a natural rock (and pop) instrument. In fact, I call it a more logical first stringed instrument than guitar -- with fewer strings and (usually) fewer frets, it just seems to me that there ought to be millions of people wanting to play, if only they realized it was relevant to their music. I do these videos to inspire more people to play and listen to dulcimer music, in diverse, non-traditional styles.

Technical details: Folkcraft 3-string chromatic dulcimer, tuned CGC, starting in key of F, and modulating to F# and G. The only effect is some reverb at the amp. On a standard DAD dulcimer with no unusual frets, this arrangement would work in the key of A.
