Giving himself the best possible chance, Charles dazzled the crowds in Azerbaijan on Saturday afternoon to seize pole position from McLaren-Mercedes' Oscar Piastri and from his Ferrari team-mate, Carlos Sainz. Red Bull-Honda's Sergio Pérez qualified an excellent P4, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell (who is very quick in a straight line), World Champion, Max Verstappen, in the other Red Bull-Honda, and Sir Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes. It was a bad day for McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris, however, after he failed to make it out of Q1.
