As part of the Carpenters 55th Anniversary Celebration at the Embassy Suites in Downey, I invited two of the world’s greatest studio musicians—Earle Dumler (Oboe and English horn), and Gayle Levant (harp), to join me in an afternoon discussion about their immense contribution to the Carpenters’ studio catalog. They tell some great stories, taking us behind the scenes during their years recording with not only Richard and Karen, but several other amazing artists as well. During the conversation, I also include a video demonstration in order to showcase the beauty of the orchestra (often times buried in the mix of a recording) to help pay homage to the many fine studio musicians that have contributed to the history of recorded music. Despite some technical issues with the audio, we managed to have some interestingly insightful, and even downright funny conversation. Recorded April 27, 2024.
