The Calgary UX community is happy to welcome Janet Bird, Lead, UX Digital Design at Porter Airlines Inc. Janet will share her thoughts on transferable skills in UX.

Transferable skills are skills that you can apply in multiple settings or industries. If you are starting your UX journey from a different field, you likely already have lots of valuable skills and experiences to apply in your new career.

Prior to entering into the field of UX, Janet Bird had worked in the architecture industry for almost a decade, as well as owned her own commercial photography business for several years. In her past four years in UX she has leveraged her many skills, previously developed in other fields, to accelerate her growth.

Janet has since met and hired many designers and researchers who came from various backgrounds. She is a big believer in creating amazing new careers and endeavours, using past experiences and knowledge.
