Oh, the things I learned during and after hiking the John Muir Trail / Nüümü Poyo! Hindsight is 20/20 and here’s all the lessons learned, so you can go into your hike with more knowledge than I did. This video isn’t meant to cover the basics for people just thinking of attempting to thru hike, but a more intermediate level of information for folks who have done some research and are now thinking, “what info have I not seen yet?”

Why call the trail Nüümü Poyo?
To show respect for the folks that called the area home for centuries! This is a really good article explaining more, you should give it a read:

or search Indigenous Women Hike on Instagram!

Why am I still using JMT in my titles and such?
So people interested in the trail but haven't heard the indigenous name yet will know what I'm talking about!

What is Beer in Beautiful Places?
Hi, I’m Maddie! Celebrating an outdoor adventure with a beer has been a long-time tradition for me, and I wanted to create a platform for like-minded folks to come together. In my videos, I cover all types of adventures and review beer! Topics include day hiking, kayaking, travel, thru-hiking, and life on the road. In short, if you would describe yourself as an outdoorist, outdoorsman, outdoorswoman, hiker trash, nomad, or dirtbag, come on along, this is the channel for you! Welcome and cheers!
