WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW scored five times in the second half to break open a scoreless contest and cruise to a 5-0 shutout of visiting Old Dominion in CAA women's soccer action Sunday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. The Seahawks improved to 8-6-1 overall and leveled their league mark at 3-3-0 with the victory. The Lady Monarchs moved to 2-11 and 0-5-0 with the loss. After a scoreless first half, freshman Maddie McCormick got UNCW on the board at the 52:04 mark of the contest, ripping a shot from the top of the box into the left-hand corner of the net for her third goal of the season. Sophomore Stephanie Bronson doubled the Seahawks advantage to 2-0 less than five minutes later, converting a feed from McCormick in the middle of the box at the 56:58 mark for her second tally of the campaign. Senior Stephanie Rose gave UNCW a 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute as she converted a penalty kick opportunity that was created when McCormick was fouled inside the box. The goal was Rose's team-leading seventh of the season. Junior Nicole Costa pushed the Seahawks edge to 4-0 in the 66th minute, placing a feed from freshman Lindsey Bryne into the upper right-hand corner of the net for her fourth goal of the campaign. Rose also picked up an assist on the play. Senior Ali Nagle closed out the scoring in the 79th minute, tucking a shot from 25 yards under the bar for her first goal of the season. Senior Jen Ludemann was credited with an assist on the play. UNCW held a commanding 28-8 shot advantage in the contest, including a 13-2 edge in the first half. Both teams were awarded seven corner kicks during the contest.
Senior Caitlin Hunter made two saves to record her fifth shutout of the season and the 12th clean sheet of her career. Senior Laura Bush made 10 saves in goal for the Lady Monarchs.
