Dr. Andy Schwert, D.C. demonstrates a unique acupuncture treatment for Casie Shepherd, current pro bodybuilder on the IFBB circuit. Because of the workout volume that Casie goes through working towards an upcoming competition, it's important that there are no structural imbalances in any skeleto-muscular region of her body. The electrolysis treatment featured in this video will allow her to be completely mobile and fluid in both her workout mechanics, but more importantly for her posing practices for when she eventually hits the stage.

Casie is currently eight weeks away from competing in the IFBB / NPC Midwest Omaha Pro event, and is coming in to West End Chiropractic routinely to work on her scapular and shoulder mobility, helping to open up the shoulders and back for extra engagement during strength training.

As Dr. Andy describes during the video, a high volume of strength training often leads to protracting of the scapula; causes them to rotate outward and upward over the course of repeated workouts and muscle engagement. When that starts to occur, it affects the surrounding muscles' ability to fire optimally, which can in turn affect overall performance and mobility. This is of particular concern to a competitive bodybuilder such as Casie, because full mobility is needed for the best performance during posing on stage.

In addition to shoulder work, Dr. Andy directs attention towards the ‘TL Junction,’ the area between the thoracic and lumbar spine. This is another area that takes a heavy amount of stress during strength training, making it imperative to keep perfectly aligned for someone like Casie.
