In July of 2023, I set out for Salamanca, NY to catch Buffalo & Pittsburgh's southbound road train SIRI, being led by an EMD lash-up featuring three SD40s and an SD50. Starting their day in the once bustling East Salamanca Yard, the crew would first set out cars for the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad interchange and for Salamanca-based B&P local SARE. From there, the freight would head south along former B&O tracks to the northern Pennsylvania town of Bradford, where the crew would make a pick-up before continuing farther south into the Keystone State. However, soon after this video was filmed, the Genesee & Wyoming subsidiary would eventually turn from the six-axle EMD power to former BNSF Dash 9s, making this the last time I would see the six-axle Spartan EMDs.
