Today I’m creating a simple DIY sewing tool that is going to help keep my dressmaker sewing pins in place.

DIY magnetic pin holders are super easy to make and really inexpensive compared to the modern day magnetic pin cushions (depending on materials used of course:)

Check your local antique store, vintage shops and thrift stores for plates that have a slightly raised bottom so its easy to apply the magnets.

You can find the most gorgeous dishes for re-purposing in your sewing space with just a bit of digging around.

This is quite a simple project I know, but I was in need of a pin plate to keep near my dress form. The standard modern magnetic pin holder keeps hold of the pins so tightly that it makes it difficult to get the pins apart and remove them. This plate worked out perfectly.
