Referred to by newspapers around the world as “The Girl Who Tamed the Arctic,” Louise Arner Boyd was one of the world’s first female Arctic explorers. Boyd first gained international repute in the 1920s for her arctic exploits—which sometimes included hunting dangerous game—and, later, in 1934, she traveled through Poland for three months as a U.S. delegate.
