This is my Hoover Ranger U4002 from August 1975. The Ranger was the direct replacement for the old 652A/6525 range, and is very similar in many respects. Its essentially the same machine but with a different hood, and switch setup. The Ranger was on sale from about 1974 up to around 1980, after which it was facelifted to become the PowerPlus.
In 1983, the Junior Deluxe, and the Dialamatic were replaced by the all new Turbopower 1 range, although the direct replacement for the Ranger styled Power Plus type cleaners was the Turbomaster which didn't come along until 1986, by which time the Power Plus was looking very tired and dated, and was losing sales to the far more popular Turbopower 1.
The Ranger was one of the last of the great Hoovers with the traditional styling and metal chassis setup. The 1980's signalled the end for the all metal constructed uprights, and ushered in a new era for Hoover with the arrival of the modern day plastivac.
