The last mountain gorillas live in the Virunga National Park, in the Great Lakes region. To find them you have to walk long distances and penetrate thick rainforests. Mountain gorillas have become collateral victims of the wars which have plagued the Great Lakes region, it was thought that there were no more than 786 individuals left in the world.However, a recent census conducted in March and April, reported a sudden and significant increase of the gorilla population in the Virunga National Park - theyve seen numbers increase by a quarter in the last seven years.
